Walk to School Week

16th – 20th May 2022

Dear Parents and Carers

Next week is ‘Walk to School Week’ and we would like to encourage our children to take part. Many children already walk to school and we understand that due to different circumstances this may not always be possible. However if this is the case we would like to encourage you to add some extra walking into your day, for example parking further away or getting off the bus a stop earlier.

Dudley’s Road Safety Team have very kindly provided every school in Dudley resources to help us take part. All children will have a record sheet in school to record if they have walked to school or if they have added extra walking into their car/bus journey. At the end of the week, children will receive a Green Cross Code bookmark to remind them how to safely cross the road and encourage them to continue travelling in a safe, active way.

Over the last year Dudley’s Road Safety Team have found that recognition of the Green Cross Code (Stop, Look and Listen) has dropped. We would therefore like to focus on this key life skill, as well as the main theme of Health and Wellbeing. Included in this is the positive effect that walking can have on our mental health.

Please see the website below for lots of useful information - https://www.livingstreets.org.uk/media/3561/family-walk-to-school-kit.pdf .

Many thanks
