Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

Year 6 is our last year at The Ridge. We take on lots of extra responsibilities around the school. Some of us are Playground Leaders: we organise lunchtime activities and help set up games for the younger children. There's also the opportunity to become a Key Stage 1 councillor, representing the younger children at School Council meetings. You could even be chosen as House Captain to help organise your house at sports day.

In Year 6, there are many opportunities to continue to represent the school in sporting and music events. You also have the chance to work towards a special Rotary Award. Year Six also act as 'buddies' to the new Reception class. We help them settle in at playtimes and help them make new friends.

In class, we work on themes across the three terms:

Our theme for the Autumn Term is World War 2. This year, we visited Cannock Chase museum and learnt about life on the home front.

In the Spring term, our theme is Ancient Greece. We learn about the gods and goddesses, marvellous myths and Ancient Greek lifestyles.

Our Summer Term theme is 'Changes'. This incorporates lots of learning across the curriculum, as well as the upcoming changes that will be happening in preparation for secondary school. The summer term is also where we take our SATs tests. These are tests to show all of the amazing learning we have done in Key Stage 2.

A huge part of our Summer Term is our Key Stage Two production. Year Six take the main parts and work hard to learn lines, follow stage directions and sing songs. The brave amongst us even audition for solo singing parts! We create a back drop on the stage and then join with the rest of Key Stage Two to give three performances at the end of July!
