A message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

The autumn term continues to move forward at a pace with only three weeks until half-term.  Thank you to the parents and families who were able to support us with our Harvest assemblies on Friday.  The weather was a challenge, but the children were exceptional in their singing and delivery of our harvest festival.

Thank you again for all the donations to our collection which will be gratefully received by the Food Bank.

World Mental Health Day

This Friday is World Mental Health Day and we have some plans to mark this important date with the children.  Information will be provided to you via the relevant class dojo.

500 Words Competition

The BBC competition 500 words for Years 3-6 continues with the deadline being after half-term.  We are conducting our own competition within The Ridge and the best entries will be sent to the BBC for the competition.  For further information about the competition, please follow this link:

Healthy Schools Lunches Update

We have been asked to send the following information to you with regards to the Dudley Healthy Schools Update and the advice for healthy lunchboxes. The link is below:

Please be aware that we do have children with severe nut allergies so please could you support our children by adhering to our ‘nut free’ school policy for food and snacks.  That applies to Nutella as an example, please do not use nut-based products in sandwiches or in snacks.  We would also like to request that children only have a single chocolate biscuit or cake in their lunchboxes.

Ridge Friends Association (RFA)

We’ve started the term with some exciting changes!

Charlie Brooks has stepped into a new role as Chair.
(Year 3 parent)

Charlotte Rose Lapper continues as Treasurer.
(Years 3 & 5 parent)

We also welcome Lucy Howell as our new Secretary.
(Year 1 parent)

Other committee members:
Beth Killin (Year 5)
Natalie Roberts (Year 3 & 6)
Stacey Smith (Year 3)
Carrie Adams (Year 3)

Our first events of the year, Tea and Tears and the Macmillan coffee morning were a huge success. It was lovely meeting so many new parents joining our school community. Photos and videos will be shared soon on our brand-new Facebook page (details to follow).

Upcoming Events
New! Halloween Disco – Thursday 23rd October

Christmas Fair – Friday 5th December

Financial Update

We’re committed to being more transparent about both how much we raise and how funds are spent. This term, the RFA will be making a donation to support the fantastic improvements to the school garden, with the next stage of work planned soon (amount to be confirmed). We’ll also be announcing our next fundraising project shortly.

Volunteers Needed

We love running events for the school, but we can’t do it without your help. Numbers of volunteers are currently very low, and without more support, we may struggle to keep putting on events the children enjoy so much. Any time you can give — big or small — makes a real difference.

If you can help, please get in touch. We’d be so grateful!

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Mrs Gilbert is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and any concerns should be shared with her or the Deputy Safeguarding Leads – Mrs Hadley and Mrs Morley.  Where child protection concerns are raised, the school has a statutory duty to refer these concerns to children’s social care.

Parking on Gregory Road

Finally, we have had several disgruntled and upset residents within Gregory Road this week in relation to the parking by parents of The Ridge.  I have also been contacted over the weekend by the Local Council asking for a reminder to be sent to parents regarding the manner in which cars are parked on Gregory Road with due regard to be given to access for residents and potential emergency vehicles.  Please could you support me ensuring we avoid any distress to our residents.

Can I also confirm that any social media groups with The Ridge in the title are not endorsed by school.

Kind regards

Mrs C Gilbert
