A message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

The weeks seem to be flying by as we hurtle towards the end of the year! Thankfully, it was ‘third time lucky’ on Tuesday and we got a break with the weather to allow us to complete the Key Stage 2 event. Thank you for all your support: we know how inconvenient the postponements have been.

It was lovely to see so many of you at Open Evening last night. It was a pleasure to read the children’s reports and share the progress that they have made this year. We hope that you had the same pride as your child enjoyed sharing their work with you. Many of you popped in to meet their new teacher for next year, which puts a face to the name and hopefully makes the transition a little easier. The children will have transition sessions with their teachers in their new classrooms on the morning of Tuesday 11th July and the afternoon of Wednesday 19th July.

Finally next week is a big week in school: Key Stage 2 pupils (and staff!) have been working incredibly hard to rehearse their performance of ‘What A Knight’, which has its premiere next week and we also have our annual ‘Shorts and Shades’ family picnic. Further details of these events are below.

Kind regards

Mrs D Hudson

Headteacher

What A Knight - Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th July

Ticketing information has already gone out to Key Stage 2 Families for these performances. The evening shows start at 6.30pm. and the gates will be open from 6.00pm. for the cast a choir to come in to get ready for the show.

After all the hard work that has gone into the productions,  it is important that all the children return to school to take part – choir, actors and stage crew. If circumstances mean that your child is unable to attend, please make sure that their teacher knows as soon as possible so that any adjustments can be made.

We are looking forward to a fantastic run of performances!

Shorts and Shades - Fund Raiser for Balls to Cancer

On Friday 14th July we have our annual Shorts and Shades Picnic. The children can come to school wearing their shorts and a t-shirt and bring along their sunglasses.  The event starts at 2.15 p.m. when parents and carers are welcome to join us on the field. Bring along a chair and a small picnic for yourself and your child and enjoy a relaxed hour or so. Children whose family are unable to attend can also bring a picnic but please don’t go overboard; it is only a short time after the children have had lunch! On a practical note it would be helpful if you could bring a bag to take home your own rubbish – thank you.

This event is an annual fundraiser for local charities. This year our fundraising takes on an added significance as we support ‘Balls to Cancer’. One of our parents, Simon Rikunenko has already raised over £4000 for this charity which has supported him and his family after his own diagnosis. The charity provided holidays for families affected by cancer but recently financial pressures have meant that these have had to be paused.

We really want to show our support for the family in a practical way. We are asking that each child and adult attending the picnic makes a donation. We are suggesting £2.00 per person but obviously you are encouraged to give whatever you can. Children can bring their donations in to school in the morning and there will be collecting buckets available in the afternoon.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday.

Ridge Has Got Talent

The children love ‘Ridge Has Got Talent’, which is a chance for the children to showcase their skills and talents. Anyone can take part, although group acts need to be a maximum of 6 performers. Classroom heats take place and from these heats, acts are selected by a class vote to go through to the final on Tuesday 18th July at 9:30am. Parents of the finalists are invited to come along to see the children perform. (We will let you know by Friday 14th July if your child is a finalists.)

You will receive a dojo message from your child’s teacher to let you know about when your child’s heats will be. If children are taking part they will need to bring in any outfits/props for the heats, and for the final if they are voted through. If their talent is one that requires a lot of space they can film themselves and parents can send us the video on dojo.

Wellbeing Club

This term Mrs Melia and Mrs Jarrott have been running an after school wellbeing club for EYFS and Key Stage 1 children.  The sessions were a huge success and the children all enjoyed it.

We will be running it again in the Summer term next year. We had so many children interested in the club that the children who didn't get spaces this time will be offered the spaces first next year.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Mrs Hudson is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and any concerns should be shared with her or the Deputy Safeguarding Leads – Mrs Hadley and Miss Beddoes.  Where child protection concerns are raised, the school has a statutory duty to refer these concerns to children’s social care.

This week as part of our PSHE teaching we have welcomed Laura Deveraux, our school nurse, into school. Laura worked with Year 2 to help them understand more about medicines. She showed them her ‘medicine box’ and helped the children to understand how helpful medicine can be but also the dangers of medication. Laura reported that the children were “superstars as always” and by the end of the session showed a real deep understanding of how to keep themselves safe. Thank you Laura.
