A message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

As we break up today for the half term holiday, I want to thank you for your support over the past eight weeks. It has been lovely to see the children settle into their new classes and make progress in their learning. There has been lots going on including theatre visits, workshops, visitors in to school and a residential – all of which have been enjoyed by the children. Although it has been a great start to the year, I think everyone, children and staff are well and truly ready for a rest before the half term run up to Christmas!

One of the big features of the past half term was our OFSTED Inspection. We are still waiting for the final report and look forward to sharing it with you as soon as it is ready to be published.  In the meantime, I hope that you and the children have a great half term and for those of you who are able, you enjoy a change of routine and time together.

Best wishes,

Mrs D Hudson

Headteacher

Year 4 and 5 Visit to see Matilda at Ridgewood High School

Year 4 and 5 were privileged to be invite to see Ridgewood’s performance of Matilda on Tuesday. It was a wonderful show which captivated the audience. The quality of acting, singing and dancing was inspiring and it was fantastic to see so many past Ridge pupils taking part. Our current pupils were inspired as it gave them a vision of the opportunities open to them in the future. Our thanks go to the students and staff at Ridgewood for sharing their talents with us in this way.

Remembrance - Supporting The Royal British Legion

We will continue to sell poppies and other items for the Royal British Legion after half term.  The following are available...

  • Snap Bands        £1.50
  • Wristbands         £1.00
  • Other selected items (e.g. stationary)         50p
  • Poppies              Minimum Donation 50p

Year 6 will be selling these at playtimes. Any money should be brought into school in a named purse and will remain the responsibility of the child. Alternatively, money can be sent in an envelope labelled with the child’s name, class, amount and item requested and in put in the secure posting box. We only have limited supplies of each item and unfortunately, once they are gone, they are gone!

On Friday10th November we will hold a special assembly in school and hold a silence to remember those who sacrificed so much for our freedom.

Christmas Fayre Mufti Day

It’s that time of year already when we start looking forward to our Christmas events! In preparation for our Christmas Fayre on Friday 8th December we are holding a non-uniform (mufti) day on Friday 10th November. In return for bringing a donation of a soft toy and/or chocolate, children can come to school in their choice of clothes. (please remember that swimming and other PE will take place so children need to be suitably dressed).

Well done Year 2!

We have been monitoring attendance this half term but as yet have not contacted parents of pupils who are persistently absent (i.e. have an attendance of less than 90%) because of the short time we have been in school. However after half term, where there are concerns we will resume messaging parents about their child’s attendance

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Mrs Hudson is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and any concerns should be shared with her or the Deputy Safeguarding Leads – Mrs Hadley, Miss Beddoes and Mrs Gledhill.  Where child protection concerns are raised, the school has a statutory duty to refer these concerns to children’s social care.
