A message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

It was lovely to see so many parents of Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 parents at our sports day on Wednesday. After the disappointment of postponing the Key Stage 2 event, it was great to see the children taking part and enjoying themselves. We are keeping everything crossed for a fine day on Tuesday when we hope to run the Key Stage 2 Sports Day.

We send our very best wishes to our Tag Rugby team, who are taking part in the Black Country Finals over in Walsall next Thursday. Whatever the outcome of the tournament, we are very proud of them all for their commitment which has led to a place in the finals. Thank you to the members of the team, their parents and to Mr Lamb for supporting their participation. On the same day, Year 5 will be taking part in the Stourbridge Learning Partnership Key Stage 2 Music Festival at Oldswinford Hospital School.

Finally, we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow for our Summer Fayre from 1pm until 4pm. There are lots of exciting stalls and attractions and Ridge Friends have been very busy over the past few weeks preparing for the event. Please come along and give us your support.

Kind regards

Mrs D Hudson

Headteacher

Reserve Key Stage 2 Sports Day - Tuesday 27th June, 9.30 a.m

Please remember to send your child to school in their PE kit on Tuesday (including house colour t-shirt where requested). The RFA will have refreshments available for spectators to buy and have kindly provided refreshments for children. Please bring your own outdoor chair or blanket to sit on.

Class Photos

On Thursday 29th June, the photographer is in school to take class photos. Please send your Reception-Year 4 child into school in their winter uniform (shirt, tie and sweatshirt/cardigan) on Thursday. Obviously if it is hot, the children will only need to wear their sweatshirt for the photo! They can bring their polo shirt to change into if you wish.

Due to the Tag Rugby event taking place on the same day, Years 5 and 6 will have their class photos taken on Monday 3rd July and so we request that these two classes wear their winter uniform on this date. They don’t need to wear it on Thursday.

Arthur's Fantastic Fundraising!

Last weekend, Arthur from Year 2 along with other members of Halas Hawks football teams, climbed Mount Snowdon. It took 3 hours to walk up and another 3 to walk back down and they raised over £2000!

Half of the money will go towards the football teams and the other half will be split between the participants to give to their chosen charity.

Arthurs chosen Charity is Guts UK- the only charity funding research into digestive system.

Very well done Arthur - we're so proud of you!

Hot Weather

In this hot weather, please make sure that your child brings their water bottle and their sun hat. Please also apply long-lasting sun-cream before they come to school.  We endeavour to provide access to shady spots at playtime and lunchtime and adapt the curriculum as best we can to keep the children out of the sun.

Uniform – Shoes and Socks

  • Despite the heat, we ask that all children wear socks to school.
  • Please keep trainers for PE days or Forest School. On all other days school shoes/sandals are to be worn as part of our school uniform.

Please see the parent pack for further details of our uniform requirements. Thank you for your support.

Does Your Child Want to Learn to Play a Musical Instrument ?

We are working with Dudley Performing Arts (DPA) to provide music lessons in school and now is the time to start! The team at DPA have decades of experience and are the biggest provider of music education in our area. Students can start for as little as £8 a session and if you would like your child to start simply click on the link below to find out how it works.

Learning a musical instrument is a great thing for young people to do. It can help in all sorts of ways and research suggests that it can help children develop academically and socially.  Lessons take place in school making it easy to fit in around your busy family lives and we hope that you will take up this amazing offer.

Safeguarding - Non Attendance at School: A Reminder About How We Keep Children Safe

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Mrs Hudson is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and any concerns should be shared with her or the Deputy Safeguarding Leads – Mrs Hadley and Miss Beddoes.  Where child protection concerns are raised, the school has a statutory duty to refer these concerns to children’s social care.

As part of our safeguarding responsibility, it is vital that we know that children are safe if they do not attend school as expected. If we do not receive notification of an absence first thing in the morning, we make every effort to contact you for reassurance about your child’s welfare. In the event that we are unable to speak to a parent to ascertain the child’s whereabouts, we contact the other people whose details have been given to us as emergency contacts. If we are still unable to speak to someone, we will make a home visit. It is really important that you let the school office know of any changes of address or phone numbers for yourselves or anyone on the emergency contact list.

If your child is going to be absent from school please contact the school office before 9.00 a.m. either directly by phone or by sending an email to Attendance@ridge.dudley.sch.uk.

Although you are more than welcome to let the class teacher know via dojo, please do this in addition to letting the school office know via phone or email.

Thank you for your support with this matter.
