Kindergarten Remote Learning week beginning 22nd March 2021

Mrs Burley will maintain contact during this period of closure through the email address that was provided on your registration form. Should you wish to make contact with her, her school email address is cburley@ridge.dudley.sch.uk A contact telephone number can be provided if you are unable to access emails. Please also set up your child’s Class Dojo account. We are able to communicate via Class Dojo (information below) and this option may be easier for you once you are set up.

Activities will be shared with children via Class Dojo and children can also send their learning back. Further information for accessing Class Dojo can be found below.

The timetable for the week is as follows:

Every day:

- Days of the week - Sing or say our song. What day was it yesterday? What day is today? What day is it tomorrow?

- Read a book together of your choice and ask questions about it. This could be a story or information book! Talk about and name the different parts of the book. (Spine, title, front cover, back cover)

- Practise the weekly Nursery Rhyme – 5 Currant buns https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-five-currant-buns/zm4nmfr

Geometry

- Kinetic letters – See activity on the days of the week below.

I would love to see what your child has been learning at home so please upload any photos/videos to your child's profile on Class Dojo.

Monday

  • Listen to the story ‘The Three Little Pigs.’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gdcgnSrUvU
  • Did you listen and watch carefully? Can you answer my questions? I will put them onto Dojo!
  • What can you use to build a house for one of the little pigs? Try to blow it down or maybe use a hairdryer! Is it nice and strong?
  • When you have made your house, find a small toy. Can you follow the positional language and put it in different places around your house? Inside, on top, behind, next to, over, beside.
  • Kinetic Letters Floor push up challenge - Children sit crossed legged on the floor. They then put their hands at their sides either side of their hips, push up and weight-bear through their arms. They hold the position for as long as they can and then relax. Repeat several times and record their best time. This is important for developing shoulder girdle strength.

Tuesday

  • Can you use the pictures of Three Little Pigs to retell the story? This will be on Class Dojo.
  • If you could build a home out of anything in the whole world, what would it be? You might want to draw or paint a picture!
  • We have been looking at shapes last week in Kindergarten! If you look at a house out of your window, what shapes can you see? Look at the windows/door/roof/letterbox. Can you find something that is a circle, square, triangle and rectangle?
  • Can you count how many and mark make the number? You could have a go at writing the number, drawing the tally or drawing the dots. This will be on Class Dojo.
  • Kinetic Letters Animal position challenge Children to go about their normal routine but incorporate animal positions to build strength. E.g. complete their work in lizard position, reading in gorilla position etc. This is important for developing shoulder girdle, core body, forearm and wrist strength.

I would love to see what your child has been learning at home so please upload any photos/videos to your child's profile on Class Dojo.

Wednesday

  • Read the Three Little Pigs story PowerPoint on Class Dojo with a grown up.
  • Is there anything the same about today’s story and the one on Monday? Is there anything different?
  • Can you find all of the items in the Three Little Pigs picture? This will be on Class Dojo.
  • Can you think of some ways that the pigs in the story are different from real pigs?
  • Kinetic Letters Malleable materials challenge - Children use homemade playdough, manufactured playdough or plasticine to do the 3 friends workout. If you do not have the above materials, children could scrunch up a piece of paper, pick up beads, do a finger workout with loom bands or pick up small objects e.g. beads with a peg and stack them. Only use the three-friend hold for this though – thumb, index finger and middle finger. Start out with larger objects and get smaller for an extra challenge. This is important for building hand and finger strength.

Thursday

  • Can you sort the bricks, straw and sticks? Drag each one to the correct backpack. https://www.education.com/game/sorting-objects-materials/
  • Can you say what picture comes next in the repeating pattern? This will be on Class Dojo.
  • Can you find the 6 differences between the pictures? This will be on Class Dojo.
  • What can you find around your house or in your garden made of bricks? Straw? Wood?
  • Kinetic Letters Crawling or backward crab walking challenge - Children move around the house either crawling or using backward crab walking. This is important for building forearm and wrist strength.

Friday

  • Can you follow the instructions to make pig cupcakes/biscuits? This will be on Class Dojo.
  • What can you find out about pigs? Can you look on the Internet with a grown up and find something you didn’t know before?
  • Look at the different amounts the pigs have. Can you say which pig has more or fewer? This will be on Class Dojo
  • Kinetic Letters Clapping challenge with someone else or against a wall - Children sing/say rhymes such as ‘A Sailor went to Sea, Sea, Sea…’ whilst clapping. If they don’t want to sing, then someone can clap a rhythm for them and they have to echo clap it back or they can make up their own versions. This is important for building forearm and wrist strength.
