Newsletter - 12th October 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are now five weeks in the term and I want to congratulate everyone on a wonderful start to the year. It has been amazing to see our new reception children settle into their school life (despite not having the benefit of our usual induction programme) and to see how happily everyone else has transitioned to their new classes.  Thank you for your participation in our consultation phone calls: we recognise that it is a different experience to the usual meetings but hope that you have found them valuable.

Remote Learning Policy

We have recently reviewed our policy and practice for ensuring that if education in school is interrupted by Covid-19, children can continue to learn at home. Our new Remote Learning Policy is now available on the Covid-19 School Information and Remote Learning Tab of the school website - https://theridge.sch.life/page/detail/the-ridge-primary-school-remote-learning-policy.  We have taken into account the feedback that we received from the survey that we carried out in the summer, and whilst nothing can replace learning in the classroom with a teacher, we hope that the approach we have taken will minimise the impact of any time lost in school during the pandemic.

Thank You

We want to say a massive ‘Thank you’ to the Ridge Friends whose fundraising has meant that they were recently able to donate £2400 towards refreshing our Chromebooks. As you can imagine, our ICT equipment gets heavy usage and so this was very welcome. With so many of our big fundraising efforts already cancelled this year (our Summer Fayre and Amble Ramble to name just two) and future events in the balance, we are really grateful for any support that you can give. One easy way is by using Easy Fundraising when buying things online. It is very easy and does not cost you a penny! So far, 94 Supporters have raise £1289.26 for our school. Details of how it works can be found on the RFA page on the school website, or by clicking this link… https://theridge.sch.life/page/detail/easy-fundraising

Thank you to everyone in Reception and Key Stage 1 who took a school meal on Census Day. Everyone taking a meal has contributed to the School Meals Grant, which will make up a significant part of our school budget from April. There will be a further Census Day in the Spring Term (the average of the two days is the figure used to calculate how much money our school gets) so we will be asking again for you to book a school meal on Thursday 21st January 2021. We will remind you nearer the time!

We are currently working with the Catering Team to reinstate the full menu at lunchtime, including hot meals. Initially this will be just for Reception and Key Stage 1 and will be on a rota basis. We hope to have this up and running after half term. We will let you know more details very soon.

OSCAR News

Congratulations to Victoria Phillips-Roden who was recently appointed the Deputy Leader of OSCAR Club. Victoria knows OSCAR well and we are sure that she will make a great Deputy working alongside Mrs Evans and the rest of the team.
